About BSE Bankex

Bankex is the BSE's banking index, the exchange's counterpart to Nifty Bank and built from the major listed lenders. The two track each other closely, and the gap that opens between them is itself the reason some desks keep both chains on screen.

How to read the BSE Bankex option chain

Calls sit on the left of the table, puts on the right, and the strike price runs down the middle. The at-the-money strike is highlighted, and in-the-money rows are shaded on each side — so the shading crosses over at the money, which is the fastest way to find where price actually is.

Four columns carry most of the information. LTP is the last traded premium. OI is how many contracts remain open at that strike, and OI change is how that has moved today — the difference between a level that has been crowded for a week and one that is being built right now. IV is the implied volatility the market is charging, and comparing it across strikes shows you the skew: which side traders are paying up to own.

This is a thinner book than Nifty Bank's. Spreads widen away from the money and quoted premiums on outer strikes can be stale, so the open-interest columns are more trustworthy than the last-traded price out there. Read it alongside the Nifty Bank chain rather than on its own.

Below the table, open interest is charted by strike so the walls are visible at a glance, alongside Max Pain and the put-call ratio. Hovering any cell brings up that leg's day open, high, low, previous close, greeks and last trade time.

BSE Bankex option chain — common questions

How do I read open interest on the BSE Bankex chain?

Open interest is the number of contracts still open at a strike, and its change through the day is the useful part. Rising OI with a rising premium is fresh buying; rising OI with a falling premium is fresh writing. The strike carrying the largest call OI tends to act as resistance and the largest put OI as support. This is a thinner book than Nifty Bank's. Spreads widen away from the money and quoted premiums on outer strikes can be stale, so the open-interest columns are more trustworthy than the last-traded price out there. Read it alongside the Nifty Bank chain rather than on its own.

What does the BSE Bankex PCR tell me?

The put-call ratio is total put open interest divided by total call open interest across the strikes on this page. Above roughly 1.0 more puts are open than calls, which is conventionally read as bullish positioning because puts are predominantly written; below 1.0 the reverse. It is a positioning gauge, not a signal, and it is most informative when you watch it move rather than when you read a single value.

What is Max Pain on BSE Bankex?

Max Pain is the strike at which the total intrinsic value of all in-the-money options — the amount option writers would have to pay out — is at its minimum. The theory is that price gravitates toward it into expiry because writers are the better-capitalised side. Treat it as one input among several: it is computed from the current open-interest snapshot and it moves as that snapshot changes.

Should I use Bankex or Nifty Bank?

Nifty Bank has by far the deeper book, so for most traders it is the better instrument. Bankex is worth watching when you want a second read on the same sector from the other exchange, or when its expiry cycle suits a position better than Nifty Bank's.

Is this BSE Bankex option chain live?

Yes. Bullmatics holds one streaming connection to the exchange feed and fans every tick out to all visitors over a single websocket, so the option chain on this page updates in real time during market hours (9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST, Monday to Friday). Outside those hours it shows the last completed session rather than going blank.

What is the BSE Bankex option lot size?

BSE Bankex options trade in lots of 30, quoted in rupees per index point. So a premium of 100 is worth 3,000 rupees per lot. Exchanges revise lot sizes periodically — check the current BSE contract specification before you size a position.

Do I need an account or a broker login to use this?

No. There is no signup, no broker login and no paywall. The option chain above is the same data every other visitor sees, streamed from one shared market connection. Bullmatics is an analytics and education tool only — you cannot place orders here, and nothing on this page is investment advice.

What are the BSE Bankex option trading hours?

BSE Bankex options trade 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST, Monday to Friday, and the exchange is closed on its published trading holidays. The 9:00 to 9:15 AM pre-open period is not charted here — that move is reported as the day change above the chart instead.
