About MCX Crude Oil

MCX Crude Oil tracks WTI, priced in rupees per barrel. It is the most news-driven contract on the exchange: OPEC decisions, the weekly US inventory report and anything geopolitical can reprice it in seconds, and most of that lands during India's evening session.

How to read the MCX Crude Oil option chain

Calls sit on the left of the table, puts on the right, and the strike price runs down the middle. The at-the-money strike is highlighted, and in-the-money rows are shaded on each side — so the shading crosses over at the money, which is the fastest way to find where price actually is.

Four columns carry most of the information. LTP is the last traded premium. OI is how many contracts remain open at that strike, and OI change is how that has moved today — the difference between a level that has been crowded for a week and one that is being built right now. IV is the implied volatility the market is charging, and comparing it across strikes shows you the skew: which side traders are paying up to own.

Crude's chain is the clearest illustration on this site of why the evening matters. Implied volatility and premiums are often flat through the Indian morning and then move violently once US markets open. If you only ever look at this chain before 5 PM, you are looking at the quiet half of its day.

Below the table, open interest is charted by strike so the walls are visible at a glance, alongside Max Pain and the put-call ratio. Hovering any cell brings up that leg's day open, high, low, previous close, greeks and last trade time.

MCX Crude Oil option chain — common questions

How do I read open interest on the MCX Crude Oil chain?

Open interest is the number of contracts still open at a strike, and its change through the day is the useful part. Rising OI with a rising premium is fresh buying; rising OI with a falling premium is fresh writing. The strike carrying the largest call OI tends to act as resistance and the largest put OI as support. Crude's chain is the clearest illustration on this site of why the evening matters. Implied volatility and premiums are often flat through the Indian morning and then move violently once US markets open. If you only ever look at this chain before 5 PM, you are looking at the quiet half of its day.

What does the MCX Crude Oil PCR tell me?

The put-call ratio is total put open interest divided by total call open interest across the strikes on this page. Above roughly 1.0 more puts are open than calls, which is conventionally read as bullish positioning because puts are predominantly written; below 1.0 the reverse. It is a positioning gauge, not a signal, and it is most informative when you watch it move rather than when you read a single value.

What is Max Pain on MCX Crude Oil?

Max Pain is the strike at which the total intrinsic value of all in-the-money options — the amount option writers would have to pay out — is at its minimum. The theory is that price gravitates toward it into expiry because writers are the better-capitalised side. Treat it as one input among several: it is computed from the current open-interest snapshot and it moves as that snapshot changes.

Why does MCX Crude Oil move most in the evening?

Because that is when the market that sets its price is awake. WTI trades on US hours, the weekly EIA inventory report lands in the Indian evening, and OPEC headlines follow the same clock. A crude chain read only during the Indian morning is a chain read during its quietest hours.

What moves crude oil option premiums the most?

Scheduled inventory data and unscheduled geopolitics, in that order for frequency and the reverse for size. Implied volatility typically firms into the weekly inventory release and drops immediately after it — a pattern visible on the straddle chart as a rise followed by a sharp collapse.

Is this MCX Crude Oil option chain live?

Yes. Bullmatics holds one streaming connection to the exchange feed and fans every tick out to all visitors over a single websocket, so the option chain on this page updates in real time during market hours (9:00 AM to 11:30 PM IST, Monday to Friday (the evening close shifts to 11:55 PM while US daylight saving is in effect)). Outside those hours it shows the last completed session rather than going blank.

What is the MCX Crude Oil option lot size?

MCX Crude Oil options trade in lots of 100, quoted in rupees per barrel, and one lot represents 100 barrels of the underlying. So a premium of 100 is worth 10,000 rupees per lot. Exchanges revise lot sizes periodically — check the current MCX contract specification before you size a position.

Do I need an account or a broker login to use this?

No. There is no signup, no broker login and no paywall. The option chain above is the same data every other visitor sees, streamed from one shared market connection. Bullmatics is an analytics and education tool only — you cannot place orders here, and nothing on this page is investment advice.

What are the MCX Crude Oil option trading hours?

MCX Crude Oil options trade 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM IST, Monday to Friday (the evening close shifts to 11:55 PM while US daylight saving is in effect), and the exchange is closed on its published trading holidays. The evening session is when MCX contracts do most of their moving, because that is when US markets are open and the news that drives commodities lands.
